Kansas City Chiefs: Post-Combine 7-round 2018 mock draft
A complete seven-round 2018 mock draft for the Kansas City Chiefs following the NFL Scouting Combine.
Make no mistake about it, a new era is upon us in Kansas City. When the new league year begins in the middle of the month, the Chiefs will officially complete trades sending starting quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins and star cornerback Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams.
Add in the wise releasing of several well-known, but overpaid veteran players and the Kansas City Chiefs are going to look a lot different next season no matter what happens the rest of this offseason.
Patrick Mahomes will now step forward as the franchise quarterback and face of the Kansas City Chiefs. Everything that Kansas City does going forward will be done with the long-term success of Mahomes in mind. If Mahomes reaches his massive upside as an NFL quarterback, the Chiefs are going to be in great shape. However, if he busts, it is going to get ugly.
Kansas City traded away their 2018 first-round selection in the deal to acquire Mahomes. That obviously puts them in a disadvantage when it comes to the 2018 NFL Draft, but picks added in the Smith and Peters trades will help their cause. As things stand now, the Chiefs will not go on the clock until the 54th overall pick, but they have five picks in the first 124. Even without a first round selection, they will have an opportunity to land several impact players in a relatively deep draft class.
What should the Kansas City Chiefs do with their picks? Let’s look at a possible scenario in this complete seven-round 2018 NFL Mock Draft.
