Kansas City Chiefs: Post-Combine 7-round 2018 mock draft
The Kansas City Chiefs could lose some impact players across their defensive line in free agency this offseason. If nothing else, they are likely going to need to add a depth defensive lineman or two in the 2018 NFL Draft.
With their first of two fourth round selections, the Chiefs find a massive defensive line steal in Virginia Tech’s Tim Settle. Settle shows nice power at the point of attack which allows him to two-gap well when asked to do so. However, Settle is an explosive defensive lineman who shows a fantastic first step. His ability to penetrate the offensive line and make plays in the back field against the run and in the pass rush is impressive.
He is a talented defensive lineman who could become a real impact player for the Chiefs with some seasoning at the NFL level. Not bad for a late fourth round selection.
Kansas City needs to start developing some talent at the safety position. When Eric Berry went down with a season-ending injury last season, the Chiefs had to rely on Ron Parker, Daniel Sorensen and Eric Murray to play a huge number of defensive snaps. The lack of impact talent at safety killed the Chiefs defense all season long.
With their other fourth-round selection, Kansas City nabs San Diego State defensive back Kameron Kelly. Kelly played both safety and cornerback in college, showing impressive natural coverage ability and great ball skills.
He has great size and length for a defensive back and plays the deep middle of the field extremely well. Some teams may look at Kelly as a cornerback, but I thought that he was more impressive as a safety. He would be a nice addition to the safety mix in Kansas City as a depth player with upside.
