NFL Free Agency 2018: One move each team should make
Denver Broncos: Sign QB Case Keenum
The Denver Broncos have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. Led by elite pass rusher Von Miller and an extremely talented secondary, the Broncos defense has a ton of natural upside. It wouldn’t take much to get that unit back to an elite level.
Offensively, the Broncos have some interesting skill position players, but the unit as a whole leaves plenty to be desired. Specifically, the Broncos’ issues at quarterback have significantly held them back in recent years. Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch simply are not getting the job done.
As we head into NFL free agency, quarterback stands out as far and away their biggest need for the Denver Broncos. They simply must address their quarterback situation before it is too late.
The Broncos will undoubtedly be involved with all of the major free agent quarterbacks this offseason. Kirk Cousins is an obvious target, but I’m not sure if the Broncos will pony up the necessary money to acquire him. Instead, I think it makes more sense for them to attack the next tier of quarterbacks in NFL free agency.
Case Keenum was absolutely fantastic for the Minnesota Vikings last season. He completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,547 yards, 22 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. Keenum was surrounded by a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, but he was a major part of their successful 2017 season and has the skills to continue to have success going forward.
With Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders at his disposal, Keenum could really thrive as the Broncos’ signal caller. Plus, he is not going to get record-breaking money like Cousins. The Broncos need a quarterback who gives them a chance to compete. Keenum does that without completely breaking the bank.
