NFL Free Agency 2018: One move each team should make
Detroit Lions: Sign DT Dontari Poe
The Detroit Lions have slapped the franchise tag on defensive end Ezekiel Ansah, keeping him on the roster for at least one more season. Locking him up for the long-term is a priority this offseason, but the Lions need to address other areas on their roster in NFL free agency.
After locking in Ansah at defensive end, the Lions need to focus on their interior defensive line. Their defensive tackle situation was already a mess, and now veteran run stopper Haloti Ngata will hit the open market. They need to attack their need at defensive tackle in NFL free agency and Dontari Poe stands out as a strong fit.
Poe is a big and powerful defensive lineman who anchors against the run extremely well. He is strong at the point of attack, showing the ability to two-gap extremely well. He also shows a relatively quick first step and has the athleticism to make plays in the backfield.
There is a lot to like about Poe’s game. He is a strong run defender who can also make an impact as an interior pass rusher. Injuries should keep his price down and certainly make him a risky choice, but Poe would be a fantastic value addition for the Lions at a position of need.
