NFL Free Agency 2018: One move each team should make
Houston Texans: Sign OG Andrew Norwell
The Houston Texans will have a lot of cap space to work with this offseason. They already have an impressive roster with a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, but there is certainly room for improvement. Offensive guard stands out as a major need for Houston, and with their abundance of cap space, I think they should go big when looking to fill that hole. Andrew Norwell stands out as an ideal target for this team in NFL free agency.
After going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, Norwell took over as a full-time starter for the Carolina Panthers halfway through his rookie season and never looked back. Norwell has been the Panthers’ starting left guard since 2015 and has grown into one of the best in the business.
He is an elite pass protector who shows fantastic discipline and footwork in his pass sets. Norwell’s ability to protect the quarterback from the left guard position is elite and has really stood out the last two seasons. On top of that, he is a mean and nasty run blocker who has constantly created holes in the run game for Carolina the past few years.
Norwell was once considered one of the most underrated players in the NFL, but he finally got his recognition last season, being named first-team All-Pro at offensive guard. Simply put, Norwell is arguable the best interior offensive lineman in the entire NFL and would be a massive improvement over what the Texans have at the position last season.
Norwell will not come cheap. If he pushes, he could easily get paid as the top offensive guard in the entire NFL. However, his impact on the Texans offense would be immediate and significant. Make no mistake about it, Norwell would be the perfect target for the Houston Texans in NFL free agency and they legitimately have the cap space to make this happen.
