NFL Free Agency 2018: One move each team should make
Minnesota Vikings: Sign QB Kirk Cousins
Kirk Cousins is the premier free agent on the open market this offseason. He is a high-level NFL quarterback and guys of his caliber rarely hit NFL free agency at his position. When it’s all said and done, Cousins will likely sign the largest contract in the history of the league this offseason. The going rate for a legitimate franchise quarterback is massive right now and Cousins is the next in line to get the huge pay-day.
He will have plenty of suitors on the open market, with the New York Jets, Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns standing out as obvious fits. However, the Minnesota Vikings need to put themselves in the discussion as well.
The Vikings are arguably the most talented team in the entire NFL. They have elite-level talent on both sides of the ball and appear primed for a Super Bowl run soon. However, their quarterback situation is completely up in the air.
Case Keenum played extremely well for the team last season, but how much of that was for real? Keenum has some ability, but he is a journeyman quarterback for a reason. Keenum, Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater are all unrestricted free agents this offseason, allowing the Vikings an opportunity to start over at the position if they wish.
Simply put, the Vikings are in an immediate window to contend right now and they need to make the most out of it. Rolling it back with Keenum is not a terrible option, but what if the magic runs out? Instead, I’d like to see the Vikings be aggressive and go all out for Cousins. He would be fantastic in their offense and could make them the Super Bowl favorites next season.
