NFL Free Agency 2018: One move each team should make
New York Giants: Sign ILB Demario Davis
Under new defensive coordinator James Bettcher, the New York Giants may be transitioning to a 3-4 defense next season. With Damon Harrison as an ideal nose and edge rushers Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul being capable of playing rush linebacker, the Giants have the most important positions in place to make this transition. That being said, they need to significant upgrade their stock of potential inside linebackers.
The Giants have some cap space to work with this offseason and could aggressively attack their inside linebacker situation in NFL free agency. There are many strong options on the open market, but Demario Davis stands out as an ideal fit.
Davis has a lot of experience as an inside linebacker in the 3-4 defense, playing the position for a majority of his six-year career with the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns. Davis is a tough and physical linebacker who excels as a run defender. He is an extremely reliable player who played every single defensive snap for the Jets last season.
Davis also shows a lot of ability as a pass rusher, showing an explosive first step in the pass rush and a sneaky ability to rush from the inside. Davis is a true playmaker at the inside linebacker position and a fantastic natural leader. The Giants need significant help at inside linebacker and Davis would be the ideal fit.
