NFL Free Agency 2018: One move each team should make
New York Jets: Sign CB Kyle Fuller
The New York Jets have a lot of cap space this offseason and are apparently going to aggressively target Kirk Cousins this offseason. Cousins is a good NFL quarterback, but even with him on the roster, the Jets are not anything close to competitive.
Instead of spending all their money on Cousins, the Jets would be smart to find their franchise quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft. They can possibly find that guy with the sixth overall pick or perhaps a short trade up into the top three or four. Regardless, drafting a quarterback is the best plan of attack for the Jets.
If the Jets do not spend all of their money on Cousins, they can signficantly upgrade the rest of their roster in NFL free agency. They could make multiple additions who would immediately help round out the roster. Former Chicago Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller stands out as an obvious fit.
Fuller took a major step forward last season, shining as an outside cornerback for the Bears. He took his game to the next level, becoming a completely reliable defender in man-to-man coverage.
Fuller is a well-rounded cornerback who can press the receiver at the line of scrimmage. He also shows the ability to break on the ball well, allowing him to have success in off-man coverage. There is a lot to like about Fuller’s game and he would be an immediate upgrade for the Jets at an extremely important defensive position. Using a chunk of their cap space to bring Fuller into the mix would make a ton of sense.
