NFL Free Agency 2018: One move each team should make
Oakland Raiders: Sign CB Prince Amukamara
Jon Gruden is back in charge of the Oakland Raiders and will look to get the team back on track next season. The Raiders have significant talent on both sides of the ball, but they also have glaring holes at extremely important positions. Cornerback stands out as a major position of need for the Raiders, and their lack of talent at corner last season was a major reason for their struggles.
Unfortunately, the Raiders do not have a ton of cap space to work with. However, they have room to make a handful of moves in NFL free agency. They just need to spend their money wisely.
Shooting for massive upside at cornerback would not be wise for Oakland. They are unlikely to have the cap space to sign a big-time free agent cornerback, but they need stability at the position. Signing a reliable veteran cornerback like Prince Amukamara would be an ideal situation.
Amukamara is strong man-to-man defender who can handle size and speed on the outside. He is not a premier shut down cornerback, but he is a strong number two option who the Raiders can rely on to do his job.
Adding Amukamara does not fix the Raiders’ needs at cornerback, but it is a fantastic step in the right direction. He also should be obtainable at a relatively low cost.
