Atlanta Falcons: Sign TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins

With little cap room to work with, the Atlanta Falcons are going to have to get creative in order to improve their roster via NFL free agency this offseason. Fortunately, they already have one of the most talented rosters in the league and will likely be Super Bowl contenders again no matter what they do.

Offensive guard and defensive tackle stand out as roster needs for the Falcons, but I would not put tight end too far down that list. Austin Hooper still has plenty of upside at the position, but he struggled to make much of an offensive impact for the team down the stretch. For the right price, I could certainly see Atlanta looking for an upgrade at tight end.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins has always been a talented tight end who flashes a ton of upside. He was a reliable target for the New York Jets in the passing game last season, piling up 50 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns. He is a big and physical target who has immense upside as a red zone receiver. He does not stretch the field much, but Seferian-Jenkins can make an impact in the short passing game.

On top of that, Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian coached ASJ during his successful career at the University of Washington.

Julio Jones will obvious be the focal point of the Falcons’ passing attack, but they need to get Matt Ryan as many viable pass catching options as possible. Seferian-Jenkins is a talented receiving tight end who would provide immediate value to the Falcons’ passing attack at a low cost. Snagging him as an under-the-radar target in NFL free agency is a no brainer.
