NFL Free Agency 2018: One move each team should make
Carolina Panthers: Sign OT Cameron Fleming
The Carolina Panthers have had needs at both offensive tackle positions for many years. They continue to roll out less than inspiring left and right tackles year after year. If they ever want to reach their true offensive potential, Carolina must figure out their tackle situation.
They are in a decent cap situation this offseason and can afford to make some additions in NFL free agency. Unfortunately, the free agent offensive tackle options leave plenty to be desired.
That being said, I see Cameron Fleming as a nice value option for the Panthers this offseason. Fleming has played an important role for the New England Patriots the last four years, stepping in as their primary swing tackle. Fleming saw a lot of time filling in for injured teammates at both left and right tackle over the years.
He is solid as both a run blocker and pass protector, having improved drastically over the years. Fleming particularly took a step forward in the second half of last season, playing extremely well as the Pats’ primary right tackle. His successful second half could really help boost his value on the open market this offseason.
Fleming’s ability to play both left and right tackle would make him a strong fit for the Panthers. He would be an immediate upgrade over Daryl Williams at right tackle and provide quality depth behind Matt Kalil on the left side.
