Cleveland Browns: Sign CB Trumaine Johnson

Once again, the Cleveland Browns have a ton of cap space to work with this offseason. If they wanted to, Cleveland could make many significant additions in NFL free agency. That being said, in a relatively weak free agent class, I don’t expect the Browns to go wild. They know that they are not ready to compete and continuing to build around their young talent is the best plan of attack.

However, the Browns have many needs and can use NFL free agency to try to fill them. Specifically, Trumaine Johnson stands out as a strong target for this team.

Johnson is an athletic freak at the cornerback position, showing fantastic natural man-to-man coverage skills. He is a tough cornerback on the outside who plays press coverage well and can handle the big and athletic throughout the NFL. Simply put, Johnson is a true number one cornerback, and the exact kind of player that the Browns desperately need.

Johnson would come in and be an immediate upgrade for the Browns on the outside. With him in the mix, the Browns’ talented, but raw, pass defense could quickly go from enticing to elite. Plus, at only 28 years old, Johnson has a lot of long-term value which is nice for this rebuilding situation.

The Browns have a ton of cap space to work with this offseason and Trumaine Johnson is the perfect player for them to pay big.
