Chicago Bears: Ryan Pace should target Allen Robinson
By David Mamola
Ryan Pace and the Chicago Bears have the necessary resources to make a significant run at free agent wide receiver Allen Robinson.
It’s widely known that Ryan Pace and the Chicago Bears are searching for wide receiver help, and free agent Allen Robinson seems like a perfect fit for their need. Robinson was not franchise tagged by the Jacksonville Jaguars, meaning he is free to sign with any team come March 14.
It’s not a very deep free agent wide receiver class, and Robinson may in fact be the top wideout on the market. Just 24 years old, the 6-3, 211-pound receiver had a throwaway 2017 season, tearing his ACL in Week 1 and finishing the year with one catch for 17 yards. Despite his severe knee injury, Robinson is fully expected to be healthy by training camp and should have no restrictions heading into the 2018 regular season.
Robinson had a career-year in 2015, hauling in 80 passes for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. His numbers dipped in 2016 (73-883-6), but bad quarterback play by Blake Bortles was partially to blame. Robinson is a dominant red zone threat and has a knack for making big plays (averaged 17.5 yards per catch in 2015).
His large frame and playmaking ability would be a perfect weapon for Mitchell Trubisky in 2018. Robinson has a huge catch-radius and would immediately become the number one receiving option on the Bears roster. No one knows what to expect from Kevin White or Cam Meredith, but adding an established receiver like Robinson would take some of the pressure off the currently injured Bears.

The team might have to get into a bidding war for his service, but with more than $80 million in cap space, they have the resources needed to make a significant run at him. The Bears need more playmakers and adding a former Pro Bowl wide receiver to the mix would be a great way to start.
