Tremaine Edmunds is the most versatile linebacker in the draft. It doesn’t matter if the team plays a 3-4 (like the Jets) or a 4-3. He can play inside or outside in any position. In fact his skill set is so rare, it prompted one scout to tell NFL.com:

"I don’t think there has ever been a linebacker that has had his size and speed. You’re better off comping him with a basketball player."

The Jets need a guy who can not only rush the passer, but also get home. It’s not just about rushing the passer though. He’s tackling machine too. He missed a tackle once out of every 19.2 attempts, which, according to Pro Football Focus Elite, was among the best in the country, He also had a pass rush productivity of 22.1, albeit in a limited pass rush role.

Let’s face it, the Jets defense needs a player like Edmunds who can get to the quarterback and the running game regularly. It will force the opposing quarterbacks into tough decisions, and hopefully the wrong ones.

Note: The Jets currently have two second round picks, but there will be a trade. The Jets will trade down an acquire multiple later picks for the pick they acquired for Sheldon Richardson.
