New York Jets: Post-Combine 7-round 2018 mock draft
The Jets are going to have to take the good with the bad with McFadden. The reason he’s going to fall the Jets in the third round is because he has first round level ball skills, but his tackling grade would be somewhere around the fifth round.
NFL receivers will hate to be lined up against McFadden, because they will have a bad day. He will be in their faces all game long, and even though he has limitations in the ability to catch up if he’s beat on plays, the Jets have safeties who have the coverage ability to help him.
McFadden is a pure press corner who has the ability to play some zone. That said, he shouldn’t be put in a situation where he has to play off coverage, because he can’t use his strength and will get beat consistently if he is.
Even though he had zero interceptions in 2017, he’s capable of forcing turnovers, as he had eight in 2016. He can consistently challenge receivers, and McFadden will not allow a receiver to beat him on jump balls. All in all, the plusses outweigh the negatives with him, and he will be a starting cornerback in this league as a rookie.
