There’s one major reason Kylie Fitts falls to the Jets. He has durability issues. He had an injury that cost him most of the 2016 season, and his 2017 season was marred by injury, despite starting in 10 games.

The Jets can avoid this being an issue, because they won’t need him to start. They can add him to a linebacker core and add him for depth. For the Jets, Fitts can be used in pass rush situations only, and thus mitigating the injury concern a bit.

He’s an explosive pass rusher with many moves to get by the offensive tackles and tight ends in his way. If the Jets decide to use him on some run plays (they should be limited), he has the speed, quickness, and vision to get to running backs on misdirection plays.

The Jets need depth for their edge rushers, and he can provide quality depth, especially as a designated pass rusher. Depth is key in defensive rotations, especially in the age of hurry up offenses. When a team gets a chance to sub they need to be able to have guys who can fill certain roles, and Fitts can fill that role. He’s exactly what the Jets need.
