Jacksonville Jaguars: Post-Combine 7-round 2018 mock draft
By Larry Brake
Round 3: Mark Andrews, TE, Oklahoma
Mark Andrews is the pass receiving tight end that ignites the Jaguars passing attack. Marcedes Lewis, the aging wonder, is primarily the blocking tight end and goal line tight end target. Andrews gives Jacksonville a much younger and quicker option.
Zierlein describes Andrews in this overview at NFL.com:
"Andrews is a former wideout who plays with a receiver’s mentality in a tight end’s body. He is a pass-catcher with a deft feel for route adjustments and operating in space against zone coverage. Andrews is a big, reliable target who doesn’t need a spacious catch window to haul it in… He should be able to find early catches and production as a solid pass-catching tight end in the league."
Andrews is listed at 6-5, weighing 254 pounds. At Oklahoma, he caught 112 passes for 1,765 yards with 22 touchdowns. Last season, he won the John Mackey Award as the nation’s best tight end.
In the Jaguars passing scheme, he would be able to play on the line of scrimmage or line up in the slot. Imagine, Andrews and Lewis on the left side while Dede Westbrook and Keelan Cole are on the right side, in a quads formation. Andrews size makes for a mismatch with opposing safeties or linebackers. Think of Andrews as a baby Rob Gronkowski, of New England.
Jacksonville continues to select offensive weapons.
