The New York Giants need a quarterback to replace Eli Manning eventually, but since it’s likely not in 2018, they should take Luke Falk in the NFL Draft.

It may be smoke signals from the New York Giants, but many mock drafts have the Giants not taking a quarterback. The Giants do have a lot of holes, and Eli Manning has two years left on his contract.

According to Spotrac, they have $22.8 million in cap space when factoring in the rookie draft pool. It’s not a huge pile of money to make a huge splash in free agency. They’re going to have to build through the draft.

In 2004, the Giants drafted Manning, and they also signed Kurt Warner as a free agent. Even though it’s an expensive proposition, they’re in a similar spot to where they were in 2004. They have an opportunity to take a quarterback in Washington State’s Luke Falk and sit him until he’s ready.

At 6-4, 225 pounds, he has the size that scouts are looking for. There’s one issue that scouts have. He has taken a pounding at Washington State, and they wonder if they hits have taken a toll on him both physically and mentally.

With that said, he has the ability to make all the NFL throws. He’s accurate and had the ability to throw with touch. He has a decrease in numbers on intermediate and deep passes, but he has shown the ability in the pass to be accurate at all levels.

Pat Shurmur being the Giants head coach should ease the discomfort with taking Falk in the middle rounds. Shurmur has a history of working well with quarterbacks, and we’ve seen head coaches with an offense/quarterback background help the growth of young quarterbacks. The Giants don’t necessarily need a new quarterback in 2018, but they will in 2019 and beyond. So, Falk is their guy.
