Houston Texans: Post-Combine 7-round 2018 mock draft
See how the Houston Texans can attack the 2018 NFL Draft in this complete seven-round mock draft.
The Houston Texans have big-time talent on both sides of the ball. However, they are not exactly loaded with depth across the board. Once superstar defender J.J. Watt and rookie sensation quarterback Deshaun Watson went down with season-ending injuries, the Texans completely fell apart and finished the season at 4-12.
If Watson and Watt could have stayed healthy, things would’ve been much different for Houston last season. With their two stars expected back healthy to start the season, the Texans are true competitors in the AFC South next year.
Unfortunately, the Texans will not be able to capitalize on their down their season in the 2018 NFL Draft. Houston had to trade up for Watson in last year’s draft. Included in the trade package was Houston’s 2018 first-round pick which ended up being the fourth overall selection. Watson was absolutely fantastic in his short time as a rookie on the field last season, so it’s not like the Texans regret the decision. However, giving up that premium of a pick is obviously less than ideal.
On top of that, the Texans do not even have their own second-round selection, as they used that to get Brock Osweiler‘s contract off the books. As we enter the 2018 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans do not have a pick in the first two rounds. That is not ideal, but they did land a handful of later round compensatory selections that should help fill out the depth on their roster.
Having the early picks would be nice, but the Texans still have a talented roster that can compete. If they stay healthy, Watson and company could make a serious run next season. How can they surround their elite talent with proper depth across the roster? Find out in this complete seven-round 2018 mock draft for the Houston Texans.
