NFL free agency in 2018 is almost here, and for the Dallas Cowboys, they have some spots that need improvement. However, here are five players to avoid.
Think about some of the offseason free agency moves made in past seasons by the Dallas Cowboys. Some have worked out very well, as proven with Deion Sanders in the mid-to-late ’90s, and many have been forgettable and in turn have at times set the Cowboys further back.
That brings us to the Cowboys this offseason, with a free agent class that isn’t the strongest, but still has many players who are known names. Some of those are players the Cowboys should be interested in pursing, but there are more than a few whom the Cowboys need to just step back and stay away from when deciding on which free agent to potentially sign.
The Cowboys need some work on the defensive line, linebacker and at wide receiver after not making the playoffs last season. One issue the Cowboys have had in the past in free agency is signing “big name players,” such as Nolan Carroll last season.
But on the other hand, the Cowboys have had some good signings, too, including Darren McFadden a few seasons ago when he became a 1,000-yard rusher. Going back to the ’90s, the addition of Jay Novacek was a difference maker in the Cowboys winning three Super Bowls in that era.
How the Cowboys treat this offseason with their free agent signings and decisions will affect the franchise in the foreseeable future. To stay competitive, the Cowboys should stay away from the bigger known names and look to sign and even draft players who might not be the best known, but still have a high skill level. Here are five players the Cowboys should avoid in free agency.
