The San Francisco 49ers have plenty of cap space, but here we look at three players to cut to save them extra room this offseason.

The San Francisco 49ers have already been busy this offseason, using their plethora of cap room to hand out a number of extensions. As well as making Jimmy Garoppolo the highest-paid player in the NFL, the 49ers have extended Cassius Marsh, Daniel Kilgore, Garry Gilliam and Marquise Goodwin.

In addition they tendered restricted free agent Raheem Mostert and picked up Dekoda Watson’s option. But, with the 49ers likely to be big players in the open market, it is inevitable that some cap saving moves will be made.

San Francisco opted not to pick up pass rusher Elvis Dumervil’s option in a decision that will save the Niners $3.5 million and here we look at three other players who could be cap casualties.

It was a pretty quiet first season with the 49ers for Robinson, who hauled in just 19 of his 48 targets for 260 yards and two touchdowns. Robinson is very familiar with Shanahan’s system and is a useful third or fourth receiver capable of making big plays from the outside and from the slot.

But Pierre Garcon and Goodwin are both locked in as certainties to make the roster, while Trent Taylor secured his place as the primary slot receiver with his impressive rookie year.

The 49ers have already been mentioned as likely suitors for Allen Robinson and Sammy Watkins and, were they add to a receiver to the mix, then the former Atlanta Falcon could well be deemed surplus to requirements.
