New York Jets: 2018 NFL Free Agency preview, predictions
The New York Jets want to build through the draft, but with so much cap space over the next two seasons, they’ll have to use free agency too.
The Cleveland Browns have made trades to bolster their roster, and the New York Jets will have to match their fervor in the free agency market. According to Woody Johnson, the Jets want to build through the draft and use trades and free agency “judiciously”. Well, now is the time to make that proclamation ring true.
Say what you will, but the Jets have enough cap space to make a run at top-flight free agents. There’s no reason to not land a few of them, especially if they can open up even more with roster cuts.
The Jets are among the leaders in the NFL in cap space. So, there are no excuses. Between free agency and the draft, they should be able to build a team that at least contends for a Wild Card in 2018.
Free agency officially begins on Wednesday when the league year begins, but Monday teams can open negotiations with agents of free agents. The Jets need to be all-in and willing to spend come Monday.
Let’s examine where they’re at right now.
