Key free agents – Jets

The key to free agency isn’t who you sign from other teams, but who you keep. The Jets have four key contributors to the five wins set to test the market. They must make it a priority to keep them in the building.

Demario Davis, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Chandler Catanzaro, and Josh McCown should be back for the 2018 season. At least three of them (Davis, ASJ, and Catanzaro) are high priority free agents the Jets must re-sign. As for McCown, he should be signed as an insurance policy. He can be a valuable backup quarterback who can fill in when necessary, and he might be needed at some point.

Key free agents – Outside

The Jets need a quarterback, to fix their offensive line, an edge rusher and a shutdown cornerback (or two) for their man-to-man scheme. They will have to find their edge rusher in the draft, because there’s really no one good available in free agency at that need.

There’s some depth on the offensive line and at the cornerback position in 2018 free agency. The Jets have a huge opportunity to plug up some holes and not have to rely too heavily on the draft to build this roster. This is a chance to see how Mike Maccagnan can scout the rest of the league.
