It will become official on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. ET. Linebacker Alec Ogletree, who led the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams in four of his five seasons with the franchise, will become a member of the New York Giants. The club sent the talented defender and a 2019 seventh-round selection to Big Blue for fourth- and sixth-round selections.

So who will defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and the organization add to fill that hole? Will 2017 fourth-round pick Samson Ebukam play a bigger role? Or could general manager Les Snead go after a free agent who has played in Phillips’ system.

In 2014, former Sacramento State product Todd Davis began his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints but would close that year playing the final six games for the Denver Broncos. He was also a member of Phillips’ defense that catapulted the club to a Super Bowl 50 victory over the Carolina Panthers. When fellow inside linebacker Danny Trevathan took the free-agent path to Chicago, the former undrafted free agent slipped into a regular roll and has made a combined 29 starts the past two seasons.

Via Pro Football Focus Edge, Davis is one of the league’s top linebackers (15th) when it comes to defending the run. And it may have gone unnoticed that the Rams allowed the fifth-most rushing yards in the league in 2017. Teaming with Mark Barron, the club could be much-improved against the run if they add the four-year defender.
