The New York Giants have agreed to terms with left tackle Nate Solder, and that likely means a move for current Ereck Flowers too.

When it was announced that the Jacksonville Jaguars were going to sign free agent guard Andrew Norwell, that took the top free agent offensive lineman off the board for the New York Giants. However, it opened the door for another move.

According to reports, when the league year opens, the Giants are going to make left tackle Nate Solder the highest paid tackle in the NFL. That means the Giants will have to make another move involving Ereck Flowers. Are all moves available for the Giants? Maybe.

They could cut him, but that’s unlikely, because they save no money with that move. They could trade him and get a low-round draft pick for him. That’s more likely. The final move would be to change positions, and that’s the most likely of them all.

Flowers is a good run blocker. That makes him a candidate for right tackle, but there’s another move they can make in terms of a position change. The addition of Solder could necessitate a move that many scouting report had when the Giants drafted him in 2015. His pass rush issues cropped up in the NFL, but his run blocking strength lends him to move inside to guard.

The Giants will likely lose Justin Pugh to free agency. So, there’s an opening at that position, and it means the Giants don’t have to spend more money to sure up that position.

Moving Flowers inside would help the running game immensely. The power he will provide will open holes in the middle and spring the runners. The move inside was one they should’ve made earlier on, but now they can, because they have a left tackle. These two moves could make the Giants contenders again in the NFC.
