Although the Steelers were unable to snatch a Lombardi Trophy, they would be able to make a run in the brackets with a team made of current players.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are historically quiet in the month of March. As free agency goes in full-swing, the Steelers are never the team to make a splash when it comes to signing marquee players off the market. No spending money in 2018? No problem, as there are many other areas to focus on this time of year.

The term “March Madness” can be used for a wide array of events that just so happen to fall in the third month of the year, however the first thought of the term brings images of brackets, upsets and buzzer beaters in the NCAA Tournament. While the Steelers may not have captured a championship on the gridiron, would they be able to assemble a team to make a deep run in an NFL-style bracket?

With no professional basketball team in Pittsburgh, college hoops not exactly performing well for the city’s university, and JuJu Smith-Schuster’s failed campaign to get Lebron James in black and gold next season, the Steelers are unable to locally reach for tips and pointers.

The closest the team has gotten to competitive ball on the hardwood? A traditional charity game with current and former players against local high school players. Yet with the hidden talent on the Steelers roster, x’s and o’s should easily translate between the two sports.

Here’s the potential team Pittsburgh would assemble to cut down the nets:
