According to many, the New York Jets “have to” take a quarterback with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but the 2019 class will be just as good.

Some say the 2018 NFL Draft class at quarterback is the best in a long time. Many are proclaiming that there are four viable NFL starting quarterbacks in this draft. So, that means a team picking in the top ten must take one if he’s available, right? Wrong. The New York Jets mustn’t force things by taking a quarterback with the No. 6 overall pick based on the dreaded “U” word, upside.

You’ll be hearing words like upside and potential all throughout the draft process. While there’s truly no such thing as a sure thing, to take a quarterback in the top 10 based on upside and potential is ludicrous.

Teams taking a chance on Baker Mayfield are hoping he turns things around off the field, and his size isn’t a detriment (like Russell Wilson and Drew Brees). However, the latter of those has shown more often than not.

Teams taking a chance on Josh Allen are hoping his accuracy issues can be fixed at the NFL level. They’re also hoping that his 56.2 percent completion rate at Wyoming was more a function of the team around him than his lack of talent.

So, basically, it’s really a two-quarterback field, with only potential for Allen and Mayfield. Let’s look at three quarterbacks who will be at the top of draft boards in 2019 worth waiting for.
