Chicago Bears: 5 Big-name free agents team could still sign

Yes, I am well aware that the Bears have already invested heavily in the passing game. Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and Trey Burton are the newest arrows in Trubisky’s quiver, but that doesn’t mean Chicago should be satisfied with their current group of receivers.

The depth behind Robinson and Gabriel is still subpar. Cameron Meredith is coming off a torn ACL, Kevin White is a busted first-round pick, and the rest of depth chart is made up of inexperienced options with limited production under their belts. While Jordan Matthews hasn’t looked like a star as of late, he’s a proven commodity who needs an opportunity to rehab his value.

We’ve seen the potential he possesses as a playmaking pass catcher. During his first couple of seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Matthews looked like the future of the franchise’s air attack. During his rookie and sophomore campaigns, he hauled in 152 passes for 1,869 yards and 16 touchdowns.

He took a step back in 2016 before being traded to the Buffalo Bills in 2017, where his struggles continued while battling through injuries.

Regardless of his recent woes, Matthews clearly has the talent to be a star. Like many of the players on this list, he just needs someone to take a chance on him. If the Bears can get him at a discount, the impact slot receiver should be given a shot in the Windy City.
