Chicago Bears: Grading the early 2018 free agency moves

At the start of the NFL’s 2018 year, the Chicago Bears were one of the busier teams in the league. They find themselves with a revamped roster, but how good were the moves?

The NFL’s new year started with a frenzy. Teams around the league, including the Chicago Bears, made moves fast and furious trying to revamp their rosters in the hope of building a title contending team. Players are on the open market and teams with plenty of cap space (and those without) have their wallets open.

After another losing season, the Bears were one of the teams with deep pockets. General manager Ryan Pace wanted to turn the team’s fortunes around, and making a splash in free agency is a step in the right direction (if the moves pan out).

Pace wanted to help in the development of second-year quarterback Mitch Trubisky. His moves certainly showed that. He added three receivers (two wide receivers and a tight end) to give Trubisky the targets he needs to get the offense moving. Add in a kicker to get more points and this year’s offense should be a potent one.

Of course, the big question is whether these moves are good enough to turn around the struggles. We won’t really find out for sure until the final product hits the field, but let’s take an early look at the Chicago Bears’ first moves in free agency.
