Chicago Bears: Grading the early 2018 free agency moves
Allen Robinson, Wide Receiver (Three years, $42 million)
Allen Robinson was the most important signing for the Bears. He was the top wide receiver target in free agency. He was the biggest receiver at 6-3, 220 pounds and a big-play threat at any moment.
Signing Robinson signaled a change in the attractiveness of the Bears. There was a thought that with the anemic offense and losses piling up free agents wouldn’t want to go to Chicago. After Robinson, however, the Bears were able to add other top-end free agents.
Robinson’s signing is also important for the Bears offense. He’s the number one receiver the team lacked. He puts everything in place. He’s a deep threat, opening things up underneath for everyone else. He’s another one of the big targets that Trubisky now has.
Robinson, along with the rest of the signings, makes the change in the Bears’ offense like going from night to day. This is now a modern day offense capable of putting points on the board. This is an offense that can now compete with the teams in the NFC North. Now that they can put up the points to win games, the division title shouldn’t be too far away.
