In a class full of really talented linebackers, Micah Kiser has put together one of the better draft profiles. He tested better than expected, especially when it comes to speed and his production over three seasons is nothing short of outstanding.
The Browns don’t need starting linebackers. They have a terrific trio in Jamie Collins, Chris Kirksey and Joe Schobert, where the focus is on how they are used to make them more efficient. The depth is a far bigger question mark and Kiser would give them a player who can operate as depth with the upside to be far more.
Bronco Mendenhall’s defense asked Kiser to do a lot in terms of responsibility as well as put him in position to make plays. He more than lived up to his end of the bargain. Kiser is also regarded as a big benefit for a locker room, a leader and is a remarkably accomplished student athlete. He was awarded the 2017 Campbell Award, also known as the Academic Heisman.
Beyond simply getting a really talented linebacker with a tremendous track record in football, Kiser helps the Browns continue to reinforce a locker room culture they want to develop. Smart, productive football players who act like professionals and are concerned with making the overall team better.
