Los Angeles Rams: 7-Round 2018 mock draft after free agency first wave
Without a pick in the second, fifth and seventh rounds, the Los Angeles Rams are not exactly loaded with high-level draft capital in this draft. However, they basically own the sixth round with an eye-popping five selections in the round. With their first sixth-round selection in this mock draft, the Rams take a big swing at upside by taking Texas cornerback Holton Hill.
At 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, Hill has ridiculous size at the cornerback position. Add in his blazing speed and exciting athleticism, and it is easy to see why Hill is such a tantalizing cornerback prospect in this draft class.
His ball skills need some work and there are some off-field concerns, but Hill is an extremely talented prospect with ridiculous upside at the next level. Taking a shot on him in the sixth would certainly make sense for the Rams.
After trading away Alec Ogletree earlier this offseason, the Rams have a hole at the inside linebacker position. Ogletree wasn’t exactly great last season, but the Rams do not really have a ready-made replacement on the roster. Adding an inside linebacker who can compete for immediate playing time would certainly make some sense.
Micah Kiser is not exactly the fastest or most athletic linebacker in this draft class. He lacks ideal range at the position which does hurt him when defending outside runs and in coverage. However, he is an extremely tough and smart defender who shows incredible natural instincts against the run. Also, while Kiser will struggle against elite speed and quickness, he has strong coverage instincts that should translate well to the next level.
Kiser was extremely productive in college and should be able to contribute right away at the next level. He is never going to be a full-time three-down linebacker, but Kiser can be a strong complementary piece for the Los Angeles Rams going forward.
