The best-case scenario for the New York Jets with the No. 3 overall pick would be if the Browns and Giants leave them with the choice between Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold.

Saturday morning the New York Jets turned the football world upside down when they traded for the No. 3 overall pick by giving up their third overall pick, this year’s two second round picks and next year’s second round pick. They want their franchise quarterback, but who do they have in mind?

Frankly, Baker Mayfield is a terrible fit in New York, and may not even be a quality NFL quarterback, and Josh Allen is inaccurate. So, neither would be good to end up in the Jets laps at No. 3 overall.

So, what is their best case scenario? The most reasonable one is Baker Mayfield going to the Browns and Quenton Nelson going to the Giants.

That would be the perfect world scenario. Josh Allen is nowhere near worth taking at No. 3 overall. In this scenario, the Jets get to pick between the guy who is the most pro-ready of the four (Josh Rosen) and the guy with the least bust potential and top ceiling (Sam Darnold).

In this scenario, they are also not tempted to pick the flashy, cocky quarterback who has a lot of holes in his game in Mayfield. The Jets would have to design an offense for Mayfield rather than having him fit into their plans, like the other two would.

Many fans want Mayfield, because he’s bold, brash, and cocky. However, he reminds me of another person who was like that in New York, and his attitude wore thin after a while. No, not Johnny Manziel — Rex Ryan.

Those antics work while you’re winning and in small doses. However they don’t win over time, and eventually erode a locker room. So, their best case would be to be able to choose between Rosen and Darnold (preferably choosing Darnold). One of them would be a more stabilizing force at the position.
