They should add a SS in the fourth round

The Rams don’t exactly have the strong safety on the roster that screams starter. They do have a couple of guys that play the position, like 2017 rookie John Johnson from Boston College. They picked Johnson in the third round likely as insurance in case Lamarcus Joyner didn’t re-sign — he’s more of a cover guy than someone who’ll pull up and stop the run, though.

If the Rams want someone who can pull up and support the run, they can find that type of safety in the fourth round of this year’s draft.

Northwestern strong safety Godwin Igwebuike is an explosive in the box safety. He’s the type of guy that can help the secondary with the run. He’s a workout warrior who ran 4.44-second 40, and posted 19 reps on the bench press. At the very least, according to NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, Igwebuike will be able to come in and contribute to special teams right away while competing for a starting spot.

With a number of fourth round picks and five sixth-round picks, the Rams don’t exactly have their pick of the litter. Still, the draft isn’t about just hitting on early picks, so the Rams can come away with a diamond in the rough. The great thing about the Rams is their depth at cornerback along with Aaron Donald leading their front seven. On offense, they are loaded with talent.
