New York Jets: 7-Round 2018 mock draft after early free agency
If there’s one knock on Stroman it’s his build. He’s got skinny legs, which makes him susceptible to NFL running backs as a tackler, but when it comes to coverage, he’s great.
It doesn’t matter the size or speed of the receiver he was matched up against while at Virginia Tech. He was able to cover them regardless of size or talent. His size and build lends him to be added for depth and to be a slot corner. Not only that, because of his ability, if you have one of the other corners shadow a wide receiver, he can play on the outside too.
Stroman is the ability of a cover corner. According to Pro Football Focus Elite, he was targeted only 41 times in 2017. He only allowed a passer rating of 20.9 in those targets. Additionally, he was third in the nation in coverage snaps per reception, allowing a catch on average once every 30.9 coverage snaps.
Stroman can also provide the Jets with a punt returner. He averaged 8.7 yards per return with four touchdowns in his career. He set career highs in yards, yards per returns and touchdowns in 2017. The multiple roles he can fill makes him the perfect fit for the Jets in the sixth round.
