Round 4: Josey Jewell, LB, Iowa

Listed as both an inside and outside linebacker, the Dallas Cowboys should think really hard about adding a second linebacker in the 2018 NFL Draft with the compensatory pick at 137th overall. A linebacker they could look at is Josey Jewell of Iowa, who went back to college for his senior season and is a player who could be still remaining at this point in the fourth round.

Jewell could provide some good depth for the Cowboys in 2018, as the linebacker core is a bit iffy with the Anthony Hitchens going to the Chiefs and the inside linebackers at the moment being Jaylon Smith and Tre’Von Johnson.

Smith should do fine in his second full season of action on the field for the Cowboys, as he’s a work in progress as he got his first playing time last season after missing his first NFL season recovering from a knee injury. That said, depth is very important for the Cowboys teams as they continue to improve their roster, and that brings Jewell.

In 12 games this past season, he made 132 tackles (69 solo), 13.5 for a loss and 4.5 sacks, which could be a breath of fresh air to this defense. For his four-year career, Jewell totaled 10 sacks, six interceptions and 433 tackles (211 solo) in a total of 49 games.

The Cowboys would be smart to focus on adding to the linebackers this draft, and Jewell could be a nice fit on the depth chart when late April arrives.
