Dallas Cowboys: 7-Round 2018 mock draft after free agency first wave
Round 5: Royce Freeman, RB, Oregon
The depth chart of Dallas Cowboys running backs behind Ezekiel Elliott needs some work, and a player who had a third- to fifth-round projection by WalterFootball.com is Royce Freeman of Oregon. Freeman stands at 5-11 and weighs 229 pounds and had a 40-yard dash time of 4.55 seconds, and he could be available with the 171st overall selection of the 2018 NFL Draft.
While at Oregon, Freeman had three seasons of over at least 1,300 yards rushing and played in no less than 11 games in each of his four seasons with the Ducks. His overall four-year totals included 5,621 yards rushing, an average of 5.9 yards per carry. He also totaled 60 touchdowns with three seasons of no less than 16 touchdowns per season.
For his senior season, Freeman played in 12 games where he rushed for 1,475 yards on 244 carries. Freeman also totaled 16 touchdowns and even had 14 receptions for 164 yards, an 11.7 yards per reception average.
The Cowboys are in need of a solid second running back as they released Darren McFadden last season, and the current of the current running back roster includes Rod Smith, Alfred Morris and Trey Williams.
Described as a power back, Freeman would be a nice complement to Elliott and would bring some more physicality and youth to the position on the depth chart, too.
