Round 5: Tyquan Lewis, DE, Ohio State

Here is a potential selection by the Dallas Cowboys with the 173rd overall pick of the NFL Draft in Tyquan Lewis, who might not be a full-time starter, but could be a player who could come in and rush the quarterback when needed at various situations during a game.

The Cowboys don’t necessarily need Lewis to be a full-time starter on their roster, but their overall depth on their defensive line could move up a notch with a player like Lewis who has shown promise at a high collegiate level — in sharing time with some other great defensive linemen while at Ohio State.

Lewis this past season played in 11 games for the Buckeyes where he totaled 20 tackles with nine for a loss, but even more importantly he totaled seven sacks. In fact in each of his past three seasons at OSU Lewis no less than seven sacks per season with eight sacks as a sophomore and eight more his junior season.

Though Lewis might not have stood out as the best linemen at Ohio State last year, seeing how Lance Zierlein of NFL.com describes Lewis makes a person believe he does have good value with this selection, with Zierlein stating:

"“He may not be effective enough against the run to become anything more than a situational rusher.”"

Again, Lewis might not be a superstar, but these are the rounds where a team can really build the depth to their defense or offensive roster. Lewis would do that for the Cowboys, as the better depth they can bring to the roster, the better the overall product of the defense the Cowboys can have in the upcoming season.
