The Dallas Cowboys have began to make a few signings for depth on the roster by adding a wide receiver and linebacker this week via free agency for depth purposes.

Adding depth to the roster of the Dallas Cowboys is much needed this offseason and in the second week of free agency the franchise has began to do just that by making a couple under-the-radar signings in linebacker Joe Thomas and wide receiver Deonte Thompson through fee agency signings.

Thomas played for the Green Bay Packers last season and Thompson comes over from the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears this past season.

According to the OurLads.com’s current Cowboys wide receiver depth chart now includes: Dez Bryant, Brice Butler, Lance Lenoir, Terrance Williams, Noah Brown, Brian Brown and newly signed Allen Hurns. At slot receiver the Cowboys have Cole Beasley, Ryan Switzer and KD Cannon.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Looking back a Thompson’s play from last season with the Bills and Bears he played in a totaled of 16 games, making 10 starts where he totaled 555 yards and two touchdowns on 38 receptions, averaging 14.6 yards per reception.

Thomas for his six-year career has also played for the Baltimore Ravens, and in that timeframe has caught for 1,032 yards and four touchdowns on 134 receptions in 53 total games (16 starts) for a 13.4 ypr average.

Looking back closer to last season Thompson was a good player to have on a roster while won Buffalo, especially in his first game with them where against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers he caught four passes for 107 yards. Then in Week 15 at New England Thompson caught four-of-five targets for 91 yards.

Thomas will be entering his fifth season in the NFL, and though he has just eight starts in his four four seasons he does have 42 total games of experience. In his time on the field, Thomas played all four of those seasons with the Packers, but last season played in 12 games, making just one start

Also last season Thomas had one pass defenses, a half sack and totaled 14 tackles. Thomas’ best season was in 2016 where he had 53 solo tackles (70 total), one forced fumble, one interception and five passes defensed. Thomas could be a player who enters the games during various situations, but don’t look for him to become a full-time starter if most players are healthy.

Neither one of these signings will be a huge difference maker when it comes to the stat sheet, but when situations arise during the 2018 season these two players could make a difference or be asked to step up when needed.
