Kansas City Chiefs: 7-Round 2018 mock draft after first wave of free agency
With Kareem Hunt in the mix, the Kansas City Chiefs are set at the running back position for many years. That being said, it would certainly make sense for the team to add a complementary back who could grow with the team for the long-term. In the seventh-round of this mock draft, the Chiefs take a chance on an interesting running back prospect in Fordham’s Chase Edmonds.
At 5-9, 205 pounds, Edmonds is a smaller back who does not appear to have the frame to handle any more weight. That being said, he is a quick and elusive player who shows the ability to make defenders miss in the open field. Edmonds is a smooth athlete who can mix it up inside, explode to the edge on outside run and make plays as a receiver out of the backfield.
His long-term upside may be a bit limited, but Edmonds is a talented running back prospect who would make a lot of sense for the Chiefs late in the draft.
Travis Kelce is arguably the best tight end in the entire NFL. However, aside from Kelce, the Chiefs have little to speak of at the tight end position. Even if it is just a late-round stab at some upside, I’d like to see the Chiefs address their tight end depth in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Jordan Akins is a fast and athletic tight end prospect who shows a strong overall skill set as a receiver. He is a natural pass catcher who tracks the ball in the air well and can make plays at all three levels.

Akins is not a major asset as a blocker, but he is a tough guy who tries hard when asked to block. With some proper coaching and technique adjustments, Akins could become a stable blocker at the next level. Akins will be a 26-yearold rookie and does not have the most well-rounded skill set. However, he is a promising player who could quickly make an impact for the Kansas City Chiefs at a position of need. He is worth a shot at the very end of the draft.
