I wouldn’t call cornerback one of the Lions’ biggest positions of need, but they could certainly use some quality depth at the position. In the fifth round of this mock draft, the Detroit Lions find a local prospect who can give them immediate production at the cornerback position.

Darius Phillips is an impressive cover corner who shows the ability to dominate in both man and zone coverage. He showcases a quick back pedal and strong natural instincts in coverage. On top of that, Phillips possesses elite ball skills, consistently finding a way to separate the ball from the opposing receiver.

Phillips is a bit on the small side and does not provide much against the run. However, he should be able to play outside in certain matchups and his coverage skills are legitimate. Snagging Phillips in the fifth round could be a big-time steal for the Lions.

After losing Tahir Whitehead in free agency, the Detroit Lions would be wise to continue to throw resources at the linebacker position. In this mock draft, the right opportunity did not present itself until the seventh round where the Lions snag Vanderbilt linebacker Oren Burks.

Burks is an agile and athletic linebacker prospect who shows fantastic range at the position. His coverage skills are awfully impressive and Burks can be a real asset on special teams if he cannot be a defensive contributor.

Taking Burks here would not be a franchise-changing move for the Lions, but he is a talented player who could make an impact at a position of need. Not bad for a seventh-round pick.
