Round 2: Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State

The Jaguars get their quarterback in the second round. It is very possible that Jacksonville moves up to grab Mason Rudolph. There is no possible reason why Rudolph would fall to the end of the second round. Rudolph appears to be similar to Bortles. He is six foot five inches tall weighing 232 pounds. Rudolph will have time to mature, unlike Bortles who became the starter in his rookie season.

WalterFootball.com reports their thoughts on Rudolph:

"Rudolph has nice size with an arm to deliver the ball downfield. He throws nice touch passes and locates passes well. However, Rudolph is going to need a lot of work on his field vision for the NFL…"

At Oklahoma State, Rudolph completed 915 passes for 13,618 yards with 92 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. His pass completion percentage was 63.2.

Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett will not feel pressured to start Rudolph immediately. Bortles led Jacksonville to the AFC Championship game and is poised to mentor Rudolph. Expect the Jaguars to replicate the Tom Brady-Jimmy Garoppolo relationship.

This draft selection is more long termed than meeting an immediate need. Jacksonville will sign a veteran free agent to back up Bortles, in the mean time. As training camp approaches, the quarterback picture will become clearer.
