Round 7, Pick 1: Rod Taylor, G/OT, Mississippi

Rod Taylor is another investment for the Jaguars offensive line. Once again, Jacksonville selects a versatile offensive lineman. Taylor will be able to help solidify the right side of the line. WalterFootball.com gives some overview of Taylor:

"Taylor started at right tackle for Ole Miss as a senior and was a steady performer for the Rebels. He had seven starts at left tackle in 2016 and started a few games at guard as a sophomore. For the NFL, Taylor’s body type projects to him competing at guard rather than tackle."

Taylor stands 6-3, weighing 321 pounds. He is similar physically to Tyler Shatley, who saw plenty of snaps in 2017 because of injuries to linemen. His strengths are analyzed by NFL.com:

"Has starting experience at both tackle spots as well as right guard. Uses wide base and drives from his in-steps as run blocker. Possesses upper body strength to maul and move if it comes to it. Light on his feet. Has enough lateral quickness to race down the line and around the corner as pull blocker."

As Jacksonville builds its offensive line, expect Taylor to become a major contributor. Just as Washington had the “Hogs“, the Jaguars are forming the Bold City Blockade to protect Bortles.
