Round 7, Pick 2: Leon Jacobs, LB, Wisconsin

Leon Jacobs fits the current model of Jaguars linebackers. He stands six foot two inches tall weighing 245 pounds. He and Myles Jack have similar physical builds.

In the mode of Paul Posluzsny, he played in the Big Ten Conference. An analysis of his draft profile strength by nfl.com reports:

"Looks like a “dude” with long arms and an athletic, cut frame. Has experience at inside and outside linebacker. Explosive athlete with background as a talented hooper. … Has agility to drop and cover in space. Has length to become much better as an edge-setter … Possesses speed to close down the corner against stretch plays and jet sweeps…"

Jacobs gives the Jaguars another versatile player. Calais Campbell played well last season but he is not getting younger. Jacobs could be the hybrid linebacker/edge player that Jacksonville could utilize.

At Wisconsin, Jacobs had 142 total tackles with 16 being for lost yardages. He sacked the quarterback 6.5 times and intercepted three passes. In 2017, Jacobs scooped and scored on a fumble return, sounds like a Jaguars defender already.

Jacobs might find himself playing between Telvin Smith and Jack as the middle linebacker. This would give the Jaguars a speedy linebacker corps. Jacobs ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash at the Combine.

If Jacobs is here in late, he would be the best value in the draft. Perhaps Jacksonville will take him here or earlier, but they need to get him. He will make the defense better as he matures.
