New York Giants: 7-Round 2018 mock draft post-free agency
Say what you will about Daniel Carlson being a kicker, but kickers are an important piece to the puzzle for any football team. They score points and can play a role in keeping points off the board.
With 126 points, Carlson led the SEC (and was fifth in the nation) in scoring in 2017. He made 10 out of 16 field goal attempts in the 40-plus range, which shows he not only has a powerful leg, but an accurate one from distance.
He kicked the ball off 93 times and only allowed 24 to be returned. His touchback rate was 69.1 percent (65 out of 94), which is good, and he only kicked the ball out of bounds five times in his career. He’s also punted in his college career (albeit below average), which means, in a pinch, you have an emergency punter.

The Giants kicking game was awful in 2017. Aldrick Ross was a rookie, but he had the lowest field goal percentage among kickers with at least 25 attempts, and he had the fifth lowest touchback percentage among kickers with at least 50 kickoffs. Carlson would be able to immediately impact the Giants in a position that needs an upgrade.
