Pittsburgh Steelers: 7-Round 2018 mock draft after free agency
Following the departure of Chris Hubbard via free agency, the Steelers are now devoid of their outstanding all-purpose offensive lineman. Although their depth at guard isn’t a huge concern, they’re left with only one capable backup at offensive tackle.
That necessitates a draft pick being spent at the position. I don’t think an early-round pick is a must, but at least one in the middle rounds. There, they can find a talent like Joseph Noteboom who has the experience, polish and physical tools to play immediately if needed.
Noteboom, who started 40 consecutive games at TCU, has the makings of an outstanding early-career contributor. He does still needs work in some of the finer aspects of the position like hand placement and leverage. Even then, his size, lateral quickness and awareness give him the look of a potential starter in the next couple of seasons.
Alejandro Villanueva and Jerald Hawkins seem to have the left tackle position nailed down. However, with Marcus Gilbert missing time due to suspension and injury last year, Noteboom can serve as a quality backup plan in the instance snaps must be picked up at right tackle.
