I originally considered drafting a quarterback with this pick. However, it doesn’t appear that Ben Roethlisberger is ready to move on yet, and the Steelers already have two capable backups. So why not add depth at another rather important (and loaded position)?

This is a low-risk, high-reward pick for Pittsburgh. I know they already boast plenty of talent at cornerback, especially when it comes to depth. However, I found it too hard to pass on a cover man with as much potential as Holton Hill. That is, if the Steelers are convinced he isn’t a character liability.

Hill was removed from the Texas football team midway through the 2017 campaign after three failed drug tests (via 247Sports). That’s obviously a big concern for NFL teams, which have recently taken a staunch stance on players with off-field issues. However, if Hill impressed during pre-draft interviews, he may be worth the risk in the fifth-round.

The former Longhorn is a fringe first-round talent with exceptional ball skills and instincts in coverage. On top of that, he’s one of the best cornerbacks in the 2018 draft class when it comes to playing the run. You can never have too many quality cornerbacks on an NFL roster, so Hill is the pick here.
