The Dallas Cowboys improved their wide receiver depth by signing Allen Hurns. What positives does the former Jaguar bring to the offense?
There are positives and potential ahead for the Dallas Cowboys in the free agent signing of wide receiver Allen Hurns this offseason, and for this upcoming season the addition of Hurns will if nothing else improve the overall abilities and opportunities for the offense that had some struggles last season.
Hurns signed as a free agent after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason, and as one team didn’t want his services, the Cowboys have to welcome the ability of Hurns to a wide receiver depth chart which needs some competition from within.
The new Cowboys wide receiver Hurns had an interesting career with the Jaguars, playing 52 games in four seasons and only playing a full 16-game season once, that being his rookie year in 2014. Hurns has shown flashes of brilliance with Jacksonville as he played with Allen Robinson at times in his career. The past two seasons, Hurns has totaled just 21 games, and in each of those two seasons where he’s played 11 and 10 games, respectively, he’s been unable to get over the 50-yard mark receiving.
In 2017 (10 games, eight starts), Hurns was targeted 56 times, catching 39 passes for 484 yards, an average of 12.4 yards per reception. Hurns also totaled two touchdowns and had a season-long reception of 50 yards.
Though there are positives and negatives in the signing of Hurns for the Cowboys, let’s focus on the positives and take a look at 3 Positives that Hurns brings to the Cowboys’ offense as we all look forward to the 2018 season this September.
