Los Angeles Rams: 11 Targets in 2018 NFL Draft after Ndamukong Suh signing
2. Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College
Harold Landry is a vastly underrated prospect. You’d think that being a guy who plays a position that many teams consider a premium, the All-American pass rusher would be more valued. After all, the last time he played a full season (2016), he destroyed the ACC in route to leading all NCAA players in sacks with 16 with 22 tackles for loss to boot.
Unfortunately, in 2017 he only played eight games and earned just five sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss. However, many draft experts pointed to the fact that a number of teams slid blockers to his side and ran the play to the opposite side of him in order to ensure he didn’t have a big-time season.
With that said, the Rams should be able to land a guy who some experts have compared to Von Miller, and for good reason. Like Miller, Landry stands out on tape because of his first step, a tool that no other draftable player at his position can surpass. To some degree, they also share similar measurables as both are 6-3 with 32-inch arms, though Landry’s are closer to 33 inches.
Landry was better on the bench press and looked like a stronger specimen, running a good 40 at 253 pounds with a time of 4.64 seconds. Miller was faster, running 4.53, and lighter at 246 pounds. However, more than Miller, Landry does compare to another player Wade Phillips coached in Houston and Los Angeles, Connor Barwin.
Under Phillips, Landry has a chance to come in right away and make major contributions. He would be excellent on the same side as Michael Brockers, who is more of a base end than an upfield rusher as the 5-technique. If he’s there when the Rams pick, they could end up with the best pass rusher in the entire draft.
