The actions of the New York Giants make it clear that they are in win-now mode, but could trading Odell Beckham Jr. actually improve their 2018 odds?

Sme would say that it’s ludicrous for the New York Giants to trade Odell Beckham Jr. However, one person suggested a trade that makes sense, and it works for both teams.

Peter Bukowski of FanSided suggested that the Giants should trade OBJ to the Cleveland Browns and lower their asking price just a little bit. Reportedly they are currently asking for two first-round picks, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Bukowski suggests trading him to the Browns in exchange for their fourth and 33rd overall picks in this year’s draft, and this is brilliant. If the Giants are truly in win-now mode, they should consider this in a heartbeat.

From a Browns perspective, it would give them another weapon for the quarterback they draft No. 1 overall. From a Giants perspective, they’d then have four of the first 34 picks, including back-to-back picks at the top of the second round.

The Giants wouldn’t be forced to take a quarterback in the first round. They could take a developmental quarterback later and have pieces for that quarterback.

First, New York could use the No. 2 overall pick to solidify their pass rush by selecting Bradley Chubb. Next, they could use their fourth overall pick on Calvin Ridley (to replace Beckham), then use the top of the second round to get their second option at receiver (potentially Courtland Sutton or Dante Pettis) and a running back (potentially Ronald Jones II).

According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, John Mara said this at the owner’s meetings:

"I always admired the way the Packers handled it with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, so that’s a factor."

That doesn’t necessarily mean he has to take a quarterback in the first round. He could take a guy like Luke Falk at the top of the third round and have him sit behind Manning until he’s ready, while also continuing to pursue Super Bowls with Manning.

With this trade, the Giants would become instant contenders in the NFC for a Wild Card and potentially to win the NFC East. As the Giants proved in their two Super Bowl wins, all you have to do is make the playoffs to have a shot at winning the Super Bowl. So, this would make them Super Bowl contenders too.
